Our Story

Thirty years of making rooms worth living in.

Fine designers and furniture makers, working hand in hand.

Established in 1996 by Roy Sweetman as Town & Country Interiors, the studio grew from a Carlisle showroom into one of the North's finest makers of bespoke kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and fitted furniture. Under Roy's guidance and direction, a dedicated team of talented designers work from Carlisle and Kendal across the length and breadth of the UK, bringing an unrivalled depth of detail and always delivering fresh, innovative ideas.

In Kendal, the gateway to the Lake District, a skilled team of craftsmen and women make each piece by hand. Every commission uses responsibly sourced timber from FSC®-certified suppliers, and the workshop is heated with its own virgin timber off-cuts and shavings, waste kept to a minimum, warmth kept in the building. These are forever pieces, built to give lasting years of pleasure.

When the business took the name of the Carvetii, the Iron Age tribe of craftsmen who once worked this same land, it was less a rebrand than an acknowledgement. This is what the work had been about all along.
